Let M = {C, C#, D} Where C, C#, D Are Scales.
Let E = {Eb, E, F} Where Eb, E, F Are Scales.
Let O = {F#, G, Ab} Where F#, G, Ab Are Scales.
Let W = {A, Bb, B} Where A, Bb, B Are Scales.
My composition is a journey through a kitten’s world, symbolized by the MEOW formula. “A Kitten’s World” begins in a scale from the M Set, (C), with the melodies shared between the two violins. Then the journey continues into another level of the cat world, symbolized by the viola and piano lead melodies in a scale from the E Set, (F). Then, we descend even deeper into the kitten world, with the cello and bass voices in a scale from the O Set, (F#). Finally, the journey ends with a dialogue among the instruments in a scale from the W Set, (Am). Notice that the three scales in the W set are the relative minors to the scales in M. So, we leave the cat world with a different perspective in W, than our entrance in M.
Hopefully, the new perspective, after experiencing
“A Kitten’s World”, will be a sense of connection to other beings and the desire to treat other beings with kindness and respect.
